Spread of formal and non formal Education is one of the Primary needs of Independent India. Knowing this, a band of young students, who were themselves first generation learners, in Rajaram College Kolhapur under the leadership of P. B. Patil, organised a Hostel for School Students coming from villages, in 1952 at Islampur.The young students, after completing their higher education, decided, not to join any Govt. Service or Services at other places, but devote themselves to the cause of Education and Rural Development, and organised this education institution, named as Navbharat Shikshan Mandal.The institute was registered under the Public Trust Act & the Societies Act, in 1958.
The devotion and hardwork of the young educated workers, attracted the attention of stalwarts in the field of freedom movement, Politics and Public life, Like Acharaya Jawadekar, Padmabhushan J. R Naik, : Left Gen. S. R R Thorat, Padmabhushan Vasantdada Patil (Ex. Chief Minister of Maharashtra) Shri Y. B. chavan (Ex. Dept. Prime Minister) and other, who personally participated helped and guided this institute to be a well - known educational Institute in South Maharashtra
